Bucklands Beach Intermediate School - Professional Reading Discussion.
1. Summary of the important points in the reading.
This reading looks at what e-portfolios are, how they can be used, the benefits of e-portfolios and how to make the most of your e-portfolios. It is a short article using mostly bullet points and diagrams.
The benefits are summarised as giving learners the power to be in charge of their own learning and allowing for 'just in time' learning and assessment.
It suggested the types of information you may want in your e-portfolio; how different stages of learning may impact on how e-portfolios are used and how assessment and accreditation could be used more authentically.
To be successful e-portfolios should have: clarity of purpose, sense of ownership for the learner and effective support.
There are a number of e-portfolio initiatives happening around the world and these are explained.
2. Summary of the discussion that took place in your group after completing the reading.
3. How do the ideas in this reading affect or impact on what you do in the classroom?
I think we may need to do some work around the following points: clarity of purpose, sense of ownership for the learner and effective support. This would increase teacher and student participation in using e-portfolios.
4. Possible future directions influenced by this reading.
Looking at current asessment practise.
