Death, Taxes and ICT - mTechnologyCarolyn Stuart, (2008) NZ Principal
Bucklands Beach Intermediate School - Professional Reading Discussion.
1. Summary of the important points in the reading.
ICT is about a range of devices. It's just not a PC. (m-technology).
students need to choose the appropriate device for the task
robust wireless networks
m-technology can be a powerful learning tool but we need to learn how to use them safety which is an important aspect.
rapid changes are occurring but we need to participate and make an effort to change with the times of education.
New generation technology and ideas (Web 2.0)
Technology has evolved from one computer per school (early 80's) to schools using m technology and wireless networks today.
2. Summary of the discussion that took place in your group after completing the reading.
Can't cope with present system on a day-to-day basis at the moment so implementation of smart phones (m-technology) is a long way off.
Considering cost of device is huge and service charge is huge. It would be great to see t eventually in the classroom, especially because you can
access any data or communicate anytime, anywhere with the added features of camera/video.
What supervision would be put in place to defer of task behaviour? (They could be facebooking when meant to be researching.)
3. How do the ideas in this reading affect or impact on what you do in the classroom?
It is more just an interesting idea to consider, but not practical enough yet- it would be great to research artists or look at pictures... (no paper).
It was good to know that I am implementing technology sufficiently enough in my programme. We are looking forward to using flip videos in specialist areas, which is a next step to hand held device technology.
4. Possible future directions influenced by this reading.
Not a lot at this moment, mainly because specialist area is hands on/practical. Only usage for m-technology would be video reflection/camera (which would be handy!) or researching ideas. However this can all be done with the use of our computers....when they work!!!
